My Story

I’ve been passionate about music from a young age, playing my first professional gig at 15. Initially self-taught by ear, I played in various pop, rock, and blues groups before studying jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium, where I earned a B.Mus. in Jazz Performance. My education was enriched by learning from notable musicians like Steve Brien, Judy Bailey, and Don Burrows.

In 1988, I moved to London, where I composed over 30 songs and TV music for Chrysalis Music, including work for "Miss Marple." I also performed at the 1990 Soho Jazz Festival alongside Canadian singer Belinda Blair and session guitarist Dave Ital.

My career has taken me around the world, performing in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Norway, Thailand, Japan, and many other countries. I’ve collaborated with popular artists such as Guy Chambers, Boz Boorer, Cindy Ryan, Steve Balbi, Jak Housden, and Aya Larkin, as well as esteemed jazz musicians like Col Nolan, Bob Bertles, and James Muller.

In 2016, I embarked on a 'busking by bicycle' tour of Europe, playing in numerous countries and making appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. More recently, I performed at the Gibson stage of The Gov during the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

My songwriting is influenced by classic pop and rock, folk, jazz, blues, traditional Irish, and gypsy music. I also have a deep love for foreign languages, holding degrees and diplomas in Dutch, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese, including First Class Honours in German Studies and a Masters in Translation and Interpreting. This diverse cultural background significantly shapes my musical style.

"Brendan has written some of the most beautiful music I have heard. His songs are heart-felt, edgy and lyrically astute. He is deserving of great success.''
